Moose are now rutting in BC.

Posted by Jammer On September - 25 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

Sept 25, 2007 I went out for a morning hunt with Robert Wagner. We were looking for immature bull moose and deer. We didn’t see any deer at all, but the moose rut has definitely started here in the Interior of BC. We came around the corner of the road in my Polaris Ranger and there was a nice size bull moose walking up the road. The moose started to run off into the thick timber so I pulled the quad over and grabbed my video camera. I walked a few yards into the timber and then started to make bull grunts with my mouth. The bull turned right around and came right towards me. He came within 15 yards and then started to angle away. I shot some decent video of that. I then headed back to the road and called again from there. The bull came right back onto the road to offer me some more good footage. Just before he entered the tree’s I gave him a cow call and he stopped in his tracks and turned around. So, if you have a limited entry draw for any size bull, or you are hunting for immatures, make sure to start calling because the rut has begun!

Moose Hunting in Southern B.C.

Posted by Jammer On September - 23 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

Thursday th 20 of September was opening day for immature bull moose in region 8 of B.C.. I was out hunting for the first 3 days of the moose season, but only managed to see cows and calves. The weather was quite stormy in the mountains and the animals we not moving very much at all.

My hunting buddy, Jason Roth, showed up to camp with a binder of maps that he printed off of google, and the BC government site . Jason printed off maps of the area we were going to be hunting, and the maps showed where all the swamps in the area were.

We hiked in and found a few of the swamps and that is where we saw all the moose. The only other suggestion for moose hunting is to drive as many roads and clearcuts as possible, mainly in area’s that have plenty of water around, and also clear cuts with lots of alder bushes, which are one of their favorite foods. Good luck and remember to send me your pictures and/or story of your latest hunt. Email me at cory@antleroutdoors.net. Please remember to make extra sure that you are shooting a 2 point or smaller bull moose, ones like this are hard to tell from a distance so bring good optics.

Another Great Bowkill Mule Deer!

Thank Jonh S. who lives in the Christian Valley for sending us this great picture of the buck you arrowed on opening day in the Rock Creek area. That is a great buck! Sorry John, I lost your last name when I saved the picture. On the morning of Sept 15 one of my hunting patrners, Jeremy Schraeder, missed the nice Whitetail buck from my trail cam pictures. We were set up on separate deer trails and the 5 point passed Jeremy’s stand. Jeremy guessed the yardage properly but buck fever set in and he used the wrong pin on his peep site. We will hopefully get another chance at that buck. We are hunting with compound bows for this buck because he should make the minimum Pope & Young score of 125″. Here is another picture of the buck. Enjoy.

Hunting Season Update!

Posted by Jammer On September - 15 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

I’m back from the Kootenay’s from opening week hunting trip. We got a spike whitetail, and a four point whitetail. We saw a ton of Mule deer bucks, but no good four points. We saw two bull elk, one three point, and one real nice five point, but no six points. I have written a story on the elk hunt where I got to within 35 yards of the nice bull, only to find when he turned he was only a five point. Three others hunters out there that I knew of shot 6 point bulls. It also sounds like the seniors and juniors open season on antler less elk was quite successful.

Just a quick update. My buddy Darryl Fair and I were out last night for a bow hunt, and Darryl got a real nice four point Mule Deer. The buck should gross score close to 160 and net in the mid 150’s, it is a real nice deer! I am at work right now so I will post a picture on this blog when I get home tonight. Good Luck in the woods!!

Great Opening Day Mule Deer Buck!

It was a great start to the 2007 hunting season. I traveled to Cranbrook B.C to hunt with my Grandpa, Pat Fennessy. We had planned out our opening morning archery hunt on a mountain we used to hunt when I was a kid and lived in Cranbrook. Within minutes I had this nice Mule deer buck on the ground. Watch for articles on, Bow hunting, complete story of my bow hunt, and how to care for antlers in velvet, on the main site in the next couple of days! Get out there and go hunting, I have seen lots of game everywhere I go this year. Good Luck!
