Scott Hanik and his 4 hunting partners, all from Kelowna BC, shot 3 great bull elk in the fall of 2007. Scott’s bull is a beautiful 7×7 that unofficially gross scores 328″ and net scores 317″. The boys were hunting in the East Kootenay Region of British Columbia. I have hunted elk with buddies before and it is very exciting and rewarding just to get one good bull on a trip, these guys must have been pumped getting three great bulls. Elk numbers have never been better in the Kootenay’s, so if you have always wanted to go elk hunting, the next few years are definitely the time to be going. Good job boys, thank you for the pictures.

Another Good Mule Deer Buck!

The Mule Deer are rutting and I’m going to spend as much time hunting in deer country as possible!! Calvin Davis and myself were out hunting the morning of October 25, 2007, it was about 45 minutes after daylight when we spotted a nice mule deer buck standing on a ridge out in a clear cut. We quickly jumped out of my Polaris Ranger, he grabbed the video camera and I grabbed my rifle. The buck was approximately 600 yards away so we looked closely with the bino’s and decided he was worth a closer look. We snuck out across the top of the cut and closed the distance to about 230 yards, Calvin took more video and I watched with the bino’s. I decided not to shoot as there is still 16 days left in mule deer season and I was hoping for one a little bigger. Calvin ran back to the road, where Bob Reid, his father in law was waiting. Calvin asked Bob if he wanted to shoot the buck. Bob and Calvin hurried back to where I was still watching the buck. Bob took a good rest and I used my bushnell range finder and whispered 234 yards. Bob lined up and pulled the trigger. The 5×4 buck dropped right in it’s tracks. What a hunt, and all on video. Here are some pictures of Bob’s buck.

There is nothing more satisfying than spending time out hunting with your kids, and what a bonus when you or your child can shoot a buck! These pictures are of Neil Komant and his 10 year old son Quinn of Lake Country B.C, enjoying the great outdoors. Neil got this buck while hunting with Quinn on the last day of any size Mule Deer. Quinn is already hooked on hunting because of the time his dad spends with him outdoors, Quinn is also one of my most loyal viewers of this site, thanks bud!

This boy will score big! He is high off his head, and has great symmetrical splits! Carl Brisbois of Saskatchewan, Canada, shot the buck this fall. Check out where the bucks back point comes off the main beam on his left antler. Saskatchewan is known more for it’s huge whitetails, but a lot of huge Mule Deer like this one come from Saskatchewan every fall. Carl also shot this nice bear in that province this fall. Thank you for the pictures, good luck this whitetail season!

What a beauty! This buck has good main beams, good splits, good mass, good height. I’m guessing from the picture of this buck that it will score between 175 and 185 inches! Ron Born of Kelowna BC shot this buck on Oct. 22, 2007 in the Kelowna area. I don’t have details on the hunt yet, as I have not spoken with Ron. I will get some more details and blog on this buck again soon. I have noticed sign’s that the Mule Deer are starting to rut so I am curious if this buck was with some girls! Thank you for sending the picture Ron, Great Buck!

Two Moose Found Dead With Their Antlers Locked!

These two battle scarred bull moose locked their antlers and fought to a watery death. Donna Macpherson took these pictures after the moose were hauled out of the water. They were floating in a ravine near Osage Sask.. The racks were 40 and 42 inches wide, the bodies looked enormous, but they were quite bloated. We hear lots of deer locking antlers, but I thought this was interesting when I received this email. It is really neat to see moose on the prairies, you can see them from miles away. I hunt near Kindersley Sask. and the moose numbers are really growing out there. I took the picture of 7 bulls and 2 cows a few years ago while whitetail hunting is Southern Sask., there were actually 10 bulls and 2 cows, but all could not fit in the picture.
